Oxytocin
is a play about being a human of flesh and blood, the reality of ordinary life told through puppets. A depiction inspired by interviews with people of different ages and their experiences of, and the relationship with, the body and its changes. About puberty, sex, and aging. About being afraid while longing, feeling curiosity in the same moment as being repulsed. Embedded in a recognizable everyday life that contains both vulnerability and cruelty, the grandness in life’s littleness is unfold.
About Backa Teater
Backa Teater is an independent part of the Gothenburg City Theatre, with its own house, ensemble and artistic director. The ensemble consists of both actors and musicians. Backa Teater is located in the old ship building area of Gothenburg. The house is an huge old factory and the main stage, with its 20 x 40 metres, is one of the biggest black boxes in Europe. The audience is a unique mix of young people not used to visiting the theatre as well as theatre experienced adults. The performances are characterized by a solidarity with the audience where the aim is to artistically challenge them in a respectful way.
International touring
Oxytocin is suitable for black-box venues and proscenium theaters. It can tour nationally and internationally at venues and festivals, appealing to both young adults and adults. Backa Teater has performed internationally at many festivals and theatres, for example The Venice Biennale, Stuttgart Schöne Aussicht, Heidelberg Stückemarkt, Bologna VIE festival and in Rennes, Warsaw and Helsinki.
